Amber Joliat, creator of MISFITSTUDIO.

Can you tell us how you ended up where you are today?

My path has been ever winding, twisting and turning in directions that only make sense in retrospect. I have always danced. I have always taught. I see art and beauty in almost everything. Piecing together who I am and what I have to share has been my greatest journey. The untangling of what lives intuitively within me. MISFITSTUDIO was birthed out of a desire to share in connection of all my loves, movement, music, the senses, and how to awaken creativity in each and every human.

What are the aims of MISFITSTUDIO?

To guide humans back into FEELING and CONNECTION. We have lost ourselves. Stuck in a strange and surreal world where touch and eye-contact and moaning and sighing and dancing freely seems....so far away, it's lost. My aim, my ultimate goal is to remind humans that we are BORN TO MOVEBORN TO FEEL, BORN TO CONNECT. So, we do it one breath at a time, one move at a time, one beat at a time, together in class and in the aftermath the steamy, sweaty, open love bath aftermath, that is where the magic lives.

How do you balance the duality of running a growing business while staying present, creative and engaged in the day-to-day?

The only way is to BE PRESENT. Practicing the art of presence in every thing I do whether it's dialogue with teachers, engaging a room full of humans in class, interacting with my husband, cooking meals, coordinating our next month schedule. Dancing through the highs and lows of life. Presence is power especially in the seek for balance in a very out of balance time.

What are some of your daily rituals?

Morning meditation. Gratitude practice (c/o Rachel Mclean via Tara Brach). Eating mostly plants. Drinking a TON of water. Moving, sweating, connecting. Doing my very best to remain open, judgement free and curious.

Can you describe the relationship you have with your team at MISFITSTUDIO?

They are my family. I deeply trust that I began the MISFITSTUDIO journey to heal my wounds and re-create a meaning around family. Women supporting women, because, it's 100% women in this family.

Can you describe your aesthetic sensibilities?

It has shifted with time and age. I used to be all about layers, textures, the more the better. Now, simple, elegant, soft lines call to me. Soothing calm space. Plant life.

What are some of your favourite objects?

My heart for breaking and healing and breaking over and over again. My strong body for holding me up through this ride. Everything else I may love, but feel no attachment to.
