I'm a hardcore cyborg, so the internet has been an essential tool for me to keep in touch with my people.

I kind of like how–since everyone is connecting online–in some ways my friends are more accessible than ever. Physical distance doesn't matter as much, so I try to think of everyone as closer together.

When I am lucky enough to see people in real life I like to share a meal, which was always my favourite way to hang out anyway.

I'm trying to learn more about being a better communicator with my loved ones.

Quarantine has basically distilled all relationships down to pure communication, so I might as well get good at it. I'm very lucky to have good friends and partners to lean on when things are hard, and I want to be able to support them too.

"I have a balcony and live in Queens where the food is amazing, so I've been using that to tempt people to come visit me."

We asked Jes to call out their favourite organization/hub/person who is doing amazing work in their community.

I'd like to plug Centro Corona, which is an intergenerational community center in Corona, Queens.

In April, when Queens and Corona in particular were devastated by Covid, I reflected a lot on my transplant status and my privileges that helped keep me safe, that my neighbours don't have. I think it's important for all of us who gentrify our neighbourhoods to be aware of the other people who live and work around us.
